Renewed love affair...

Nope, this isn't a post about Mr. K. He's dang loveable but today I'm talking about our groovy little house. First, a few updates:

  • I decided not to get a metal roof. We were this close to biting the bullet and doing it and then I realized I was going to have bad dreams about the $9k it was going to cost out of our little pockets.
  • Some of the things we repaired/remodeled/replaced when we moved in (not long enough ago) are starting to fail/show themselves to have been bad decisions/get dirty and that's really frustrating. It's one thing to complain about the decisions/shortcomings of the "previous owner" but to have the blame firmly on our shoulders? Ugh.
  • It wasn't a banner gardening year - I take much of the blame for that (again, not my favorite thing) but it's a bummer.
  • All of that, coupled with Mr. K and my simultaneous decision to become horrible housekeepers (no underlying reason, just lazy kizmit) had us both feeling pretty deflated about our home. Then, a house down the street with more land and tons of charm came up for sale and I started getting happy feet... I was ready to leave the mess behind and start fresh 2oo yards away. Toilet-cleaning aversion is a powerful hallucinogen, my friends.
In the end, we remembered that moving SUCKS and decided it was time to buy our house a romantic gift (new dishwasher? pretty welcome mat? new front door?), make her feel special, and put our wandering eye to rest once and for all. So here is my photo ode to my lovely home.

Dear House,

Sorry I looked at you funny last week. I got a little mad because the Marmoleum I insisted on having in your bathrooms is starting to bubble up and disintegrate. I know it's a little bit personal but your basement smells like cat pee. I promised you a new kitchen but even with Ikea just down the road, I'm daunted by such a big and expensive job. Luckily, your big trees, cozy spaces, and almost limitless resale potential far outweigh your shortcomings.

Love, Robin

PS: but really, house, did you have to let a big ol' snake move in against your foundation? A, is thrilled of course, but I, on the other hand, will probably never go out back without shoes on again (and I will have bad, bad dreams about snakes coming up through drains and such things because really, animals just shouldn't move like that).
