I don't think Lewis Carroll was a drug addict.

I think Alice in Wonderland is the product of a particularly bad case of gastroenteritis.

Last night, R got hit almost entirely without warning with a particularly ferocious stomach virus. He went from happy-go-lucky to completely wiped out within 20 minute period. I was away all day taking C to 3 different music rehearsals and arrived home just as the clean up from the initial onslaught was complete (good timing!). Mr. K, as great a dad as he is, has limited barf tolerance so I agreed to take over the rest of the messiness. Bad call. It was an all nighter.

At about 3 a.m., I blearily stumbled into do whatever the "hold your hair" equivalent is for a barfing 9-year-old with about 3/4" of hair. He told me stories about "popping water bubbles on the computer game that my fingers have and it makes my fingernails hurt and now there are plants growing all over the bathroom and I am so sorry about that and about the frogs."

I didn't have the sense to think it was amusing at the time because I was worried that his level of delirium may be signaling something far more serious than a typical stomach flu. I stumbled around to find the thermometer, couldn't find the digital one, found an old-style mercury thermometer, put it under his tongue, tried to read the little bastard (the thermometer, not the kid), put it under his tongue again, still couldn't read it, put it away, went back to his room to take his temp with the digital thermometer, realized I still hadn't found the stinkin' thing, and then, woke up an hour or so later with my head hanging off the edge of his bed.

The good news is, there doesn't seem to be any permanent damage from his fever of "Idon'tfreakin'know" degrees, and he is feeling much better this morning. Now, let's all say a little incantation to prevent the spread of the "Stomach Contents - Head for the nearest exit!" blues throughout the rest of the family.

That said, we had a great week off from school, work (for me), and life in general. Little A said it was "the best Spring Break ever" primarily because we did fun things like:

Go to the park
Sew with Grandma
Watch Smokey and the Bandit
Watch Rocky and Bullwinkle
Play outside
Make popcorn in a pan with coconut oil
Play Laser Tag (Dad, son, and three friends)
See Rango (twice)
Swim
Make things out of air-dry clay
Play kid games behind closed doors because "they're fun games but they're imagination games and we're embarrassed to have parents listen"

I'm sure there were other things that weren't so great - including a visit from one of C's friends who has been systematically trying to make her insecure about her (healthy) eating habits by telling her than no girl should eat more than 1000 calories a day or she'll be obese. All 79 lbs of C, luckily was able to recognize her friend's 25 lbs of B.S. Now she goes around the house, pinching at her tight as a drum belly and (jokingly) saying "Check out my obesity, people!" Gotta love teenage girl-on-girl emotional welfare...

I'm sure something else annoying happened during break but I'm opting to ignore the not-so-good and enjoy the oh-so-good. Tomorrow I'll tell you about the extra extra good project Mr. K, R, and A did for me on Saturday...
