More random thoughts

I guess this is becoming a habit.

I think I have adult-onset ADD. It took every ounce (and then some) of concentration I had yesterday to finish shampooing the carpets. What a difference! The whole house looks and smells better and I'm thrilled beyond belief to cross something off of my "before I go back to work" list.

Yes. I am a psychotic list maker. Thank you for asking.

Shoebuckle has a new pet. It's a fuzzy yellow caterpillar. After some online research, she tells me it's a salt marsh caterpillar. Not being a caterpillarologist myself, I'm inclined to believe her. His (it's a boy... don't want to know how she determined that) name is Martian. Of course it is.

I may have never mentioned the story of the boiled tadpoles. A (Shoebuckle) got a Planet Frog habitat for some birthday or Christmas or some recent celebration (add Alzheimer's to my list of self-diagnosed ailments) and couldn't wait to receive her two rambunctious tadpoles to observe in her frog habitat. Long story short - they arrived, cooked in their briny tadpole ick water until lightly poached. Poor sweetie didn't believe they were dead - she read the instructions that said they might be lethargic for a day or two from shipping shock - and despite my best attempts to rationally explain the situation, we were stuck observing a couple of dead tadpoles until Mr. K finally had enough and made them disappear early one morning. Anyway... fast forward a couple of months - when we had completely forgotten about the dead tadpoles (finally!), and a little box arrived containing our replacement tadpoles (forgot I even let the company know the first shipment was dead). These were alive and we are now the proud owners of two really boring fish-like animals that will eventually turn into leopard frogs which will get big and require an expensive habitat and live crickets to eat unless of course we decide to release them into the wild which is, by the way, totally illegal. Awesome.

Oh yeah, and she still wants a tortoise (requiring an elaborate outdoor enclosure) in the Spring. I often wonder if she's just a lover of animals or if she goes to bed at night and has a good long laugh about how she's putting the screws to dear old mom. Either way, you've got to admire her spunk.

R is busy with Lego Robotics Club, Running Club, swimming, and playing Plants vs. Zombies on the computer. In other words, he is the poster child for 9-year-old boys (right down to the refusal to bathe on a regular schedule... bless you, chlorine).

C is surviving hours of nightly math homework. Here's the mathematical result:

Household Beer Consumption = .985(hours of math homework) + b

where b = amount of beer required to maintain husband's base level sanity when homework = 0

I don't have the math skills to describe the functional relationship between hours of homework, hours of instrument practice, cruddy teenage attitude, and parental blood pressure. I'll leave that one to the mathematician in the house.

Oh yeah, disclaimer...

I love them. I really do.

The kids, not the tadpoles, caterpillars, or math teachers.

  1. This is how I think too. I'm pretty sure I have ADD as well - yes, I know you've thought that for years but it takes me awhile to catch on. I have ADD you know!

I'm feeling very sad for those poor boiled tadpoles. I'm not even laughing a little bit... ;)
