High fives to all the Santas out there!

If you don't live down the street from me you probably are not aware that our neck of the Colorado woods no longer receives snow. I'm guessing Breckenridge paid off the jetstream something fierce. Oh yes, the Colorado mountains got absolutely DUMPED on but we got nothin'. Mr. K is heading out in a few minutes for a mountain bike ride and debating whether or not he needs to wear full-finger gloves.

Anyway, although we got nothing resembling the white stuff, it still felt like Christmas (and R even waited until 6 to wake us up!). We employed the Want-Need-Wear-Read formula to Christmas purchases this year and we were very pleased with the results. Everybody got plenty but we aren't left with a huge pile of already-forgotten toys in the corner. We went to bed last night (with our bellies filled to capacity with tamales and pumpkin pie - thanks Gma and Gpa for hosting!) feeling downright satisfied with our performance as Santa Claus this year.

Before you decide I got all puffed up with holiday spirit (tamales, pumpkin pie, and Christmas cookies), I'm not going to claim I went all "deck the halls" on you but I did find elements of the celebration we enjoy as a family.

...and I can't wait (for Mr. K) to pack away the Christmas tree until next year.

So, to recap:
- I like being more organized about gift giving
- It ain't Christmas without tamales
- The tree takes up one of my favorite corners of the living room so it's officially invited to vamoose - ASAP
- Not much is funnier than a Shih-tzu in a Christmas sweater (except for my parents in their Christmas sweatshirts... hand painted by my beloved Grandma who died 13-ish years ago... I really wish I would have kept track of the creations she made for Mr. K and me early on in our relationship. What we dismissed as tacky back then would be a kitschy hug from a long-lost loved one now.)
- Having the kids decorate the Christmas tree makes it so much more adorable
- Promising ourselves a post-wrapping reward of a strawberry margarita meant they were (sloppily) wrapped in record time... and the kids didn't mind a bit.
- Trip to Wal-Mart on Christmas Eve = very bad judgment
- A giant peanut butter cup will always make your hubby happier than a 6-pack of brand new socks
- Using the tactic of chowing down on vegetables before indulging in the "good" stuff really doesn't work.
- It really is better to give than receive (but receiving is nothing to sneeze at!)
