Father of the Year

Trust me, he's always "in the running," but Mr. K swayed the vote by spending the ENTIRE day (as in... got home at 9:30 p.m.) at Elitch's with 5 kids yesterday. That's right, folks, he and one other (mortal) dad took 4 boys (one of whom was celebrating his 10th birthday - not R... his is July 4th) and the birthday boy's little sister to the center of the overstimulation universe and didn't even hide in the funny mirror house (most likely because it smelled like urine but you know... props to him just the same!). In fact, Mr. K took R on the Mind Eraser because who doesn't want their mind erased? R is now a legend among the dudes (even if he might have screamed for mama a little bit).

They managed to sidestep the funnel cakes, odd puddle of vomit, and lots and lots of people testing the tensile strength of lycra fibers. We had a discussion last night as Mr. K was falling asleep and I was half-watching a documentary about a couple of fatal bear attacks in Glacier NP in 1967 (note to self: don't camp because big bears come and kill you... like, all the time!) about how I halfway envy those people who just let it all hang out of their lycra fabulousness, ride barftastic rides, water slides, and look at everyone else like "you know you want some of this!" - perhaps that should be one of my goals for my forthcoming 40 before 40 (for reallies this time)... Strap up the lycra and strut around Elitch's with a devil may care (about my exposed ass crack) attitude.

It couldn't hurt.

Well, technically, it could.

Anyway, my point isn't actually anything about lycra (although Mr. K makes it look good) - he's a damn fine papa, and he's all ours.
