Back to life, back to reality...

School starts in approximately 12 hours (for C) and 90 minutes later (for R and A). This is my teenager's last year in middle school and my boy's last year in elementary school. Holy moly. The supplies are purchased, the backpacks are packed, and the lunches will be made up of odds and ends since I didn't make it to the store today. That's as ready as we ever are for school. I've just got a couple of pep talks and a mindnumbing conversation about what to wear to go and then we're ready for some reading and hopefully early bedtimes. I failed miserably at getting C to gradually adjust to getting up earlier - so at 6 a.m. tomorrow I'll be ripping off that Band Aid. I should probably wear a helmet.

I'm optimistic about this school year. Remind me of that in a couple of weeks when I'm writing about my school-related exasperation...

So anyway, about Soul II Soul - LOVE that song (it came out the year I graduated from high school... can you feel the awesome?). The video made (makes) me wish (even more than usual) that I had long dreads and a healthy enough body image to work it on the dance floor. I don't think the dreads are gonna happen (although there were a couple of weeks over the summer when a brush didn't come in contact with my hair and let me tell you... this baby fine straight hair can and does eventually go all Rasta on me) and whether or not the body image happens remains to be seen... fingers crossed!
