60 Minutes

I watch too much TV. I don't even like to admit to some of the crap on which I waste my time (*cough* Real Housewives of Beverly Hills *cough*). One hour each week, however, I watch TV without a trace of shame. There's nothing quite like 60 Minutes. I rush C home from orchestra so I won't miss too much. I feel warm and fuzzy when I hear the tick tick tick of the show's transitions. I feel like Morley Safer is my great uncle, the last survivor of a very special generation. I got teary when I read that Andy Rooney died and I still feel sad about Harry Reasoner and Ed Bradley (and his earring).

I'm particularly drawn to men of a certain age, men who lived through world wars and the Great Depression and so many technological advances that they must not be able to believe their eyes. They watched science fiction that became reality and then some. There's a certain grace and humility about them. I don't know how many more gentlemen our society can produce... not so much due to failings of men themselves but the general lack of "gentle" in our world.

Long live 60 Minutes.
