Not that I actually ever said that to my beloved state of Colorado... In case you haven't heard, the whole flippin' state is burning (and I'm not just talking about the 100 degree temperatures).
We're out of harm's way here at home (if you consider choked with smoke "out of harm's way" and I do compared to the more than 250 families who have lost their homes) but the face of our county is substantially changed and oh yeah... the fire's still burning and probably will be for most of summer.
Up the road in Estes Park, a small freak fire broke out and destroyed 22 homes in the blink of an eye.
And oh yeah... my sister and her family and Mr. K's parents are all on pre-evacuation orders down in the Colorado Springs area where something like 30,000 people are currently evacuated from their homes.
If you were planning to stay in a hotel, rent a house, or buy a houseware or piece of furniture of any kind in the state of Colorado in the next several months, you're going to face some pretty stiff competition.
I'm sure there's some deeper meaning to all of this - something about rebirth or catharsis or *um* high fuel loads, low moisture, high winds, and lightning...
It did rain here today and the temperature has plummeted to 75F. Sleeping with the windows open tonight... even if it means having the house smell like bacon for a few days.
