Day 6

We started the day at Old Mill Cafe. The kids ate a ridiculous quantity of sourdough toast. Prior to our vacation, I heard that the ferry from Port Townsend to Keystone (Whidbey Island) was an especially nice trip so we decided to try our luck at getting a "walk-on" space for the ride (which is generally heavily booked during the summer). Port Townsend is a cute town. It's all Victorian and shit.

We tried to park at the ferry station and ask about getting walk-on tickets but it turned out we got in the line to take our car across. Oops! After a short wait we were able to get on the ferry (with the car we didn't need) just in time for one of my darling children who shall remain nameless to have an emotional spaz that landed us both in the car for the duration of the ride. I'm not gonna lie - I was pissed. The morning of day 6 was our reminder that on vacation as on any other day as a parent, things can get messy. Once we got to Whidbey Island, we drove around a little, I grumped a little, and we decided we had better get back to the ferry station to try to get a spot on the ferry back to Port Townsend... and when we encountered the LONG line of traffic waiting to get to the holding area, we were glad we didn't sightsee (and grump) any longer.

Once we got into the holding area, I walked across the road to get some snacks at a little coffee shop (captive audience = good business) and then met the rest of the family at the little rocky beach near the ferry. By this point my grump had subsided and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the kids catch crabs (think about how funny it was to hear the kids rave about catching crabs on their vacation...).

...and R spent much of the time skipping rocks at the sandier section of the beach.

Then, at longish last, we got on the ferry.

Then we drove back to Sequim, had dinner, and started to sort out the heaps of clean/dirty/? laundry that had exploded all over our cabin. We had to be out by 11 the next day and we were going to need every minute of the morning to gather everything up!
