I have established my excessive love for nectarines in the past. Seriously, though, I can't imagine a finer breakfast than pieces of ripe nectarine with some Greek yogurt and a little drizzle of honey (unless the nectarines are sublimely sweet, and then skip that honey, Honey!). They are especially good this year (and especially sweet).
On Sunday night I lightly boiled what must have been the greatest sweet corn I've ever tasted. I ate it without any adornment. Butter and salt (ooh... and chili powder, my most favoritest accompaniment to sweet corn EVAH) would have only masked the sweetness, crunch, and corntastic flavor. We all compared our corn eating technique, and although I am (without a doubt) the champion cob-cleaner (round and round, people, not across - typewriter style), K and the girls have skills (R does not eat corn. It's a textural thing. It makes him gag. Along with about 99% of the food kingdom.) The corn was just your run-of-the-mill grocery store corn. Not organic, not farm-to-table, not bought from the hippie at the farmer's market. I didn't feel quite as self-important while I ate it but that didn't make it any less yummy!
Same thing happened at my table on Monday night. It was also run-of-the-mill grocery store corn but was it GOOOOOD! No butter. No salt. No otherthings. I wanted to rush out and get more (I can eat a rather large helping of corn. SURPRISE) but I didn't want to jinx it.
