The Vegetable Garden Shuffle

Sounds like a way to get mud off you shoes or like some sad, sad dance craze for the garden-obsessed. But no, it is our title for the "move the raised beds" task on our master list of to-do's. This weekend, K did the hard part of the move which was to notch out the (ROCK HARD) soil around the beds so each row of beds is level. I've mentioned before that K and I have drastically different definitions of "good enough" - rarely has that been more apparent than this weekend when he called me outside to tell me (apologetically) that one of the beds dips 3/4 of an inch (!) from one corner to the corner diagonally across from it. Bless his type-A heart. I shouldn't have but I chuckled a little and told him I thought I could live with it. Then I made a little joke about how maybe the beds would look better if they were turned 90 degrees. Then I ran. In a few minutes, the dump truck will arrive with 18 cubic yards of screened topsoil. There is a lot of rain/snow in the forecast over the next few days. Do you think it will be harder to move once it's saturated? Nah... me neither.

Plants + Denial are my lifeblood. Did I mention my parents need to get rid of some lilacs and roses in the process of improving the drainage at their fabulous new house here in town? My silly mom asked me if I could find a place for them at our place. Silly mommy... of course I can!

Anyone feeling like digging some big holes? In concrete-like dried-out clay soils?

Call me.

  1. Not a comment about the post but... I'm having a boy. Thank God for Ryan or I would have no idea what I'm doing.

  3. CONGRATULATIONS Rebecca and Chris!!! Don't be scared! Boys are wonderful. There's nothing a snack, a toy, or a snuggle can't fix for them.

Hi Beth - Definitely! Wednesday and Friday don't work for me this week - let's try to work something out.
