We took advantage of this rainy afternoon by going to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to see Bodyworlds (meh) and Hubble IMAX. Holy Nebulae, Batman! It was GOOOOOOD!
Bodyworlds was definitely interesting. The well-preserved lungs showing the effects of smoking were... scary. The epoxy-preserved cross section of an obese human was... reason enough to skip dessert for, like, ever! So, I guess it was impactful but not exactly fun. R was skeeved out the entire time so we sped through our rather expensive viewing. The girls were doing fine until we reached the section describing the role of the vascular system in human sexuality. Holy freeze-dried erect penises, Batman! That's a lot of boners! I give it a 2.5 out of 5. Too expensive, slightly creepy, skip the Ding Dongs, hurray I'm not a smoker, lot's o' crispy dicks.
But Hubble, oh Hubble! If it comes to a theater near (or not even all that near) you, go see it (then go see it again). The museum's IMAX isn't 3-D and it was fabulous but they're renovating this Fall and then they'll bring Hubble back in 3-D and then we'll see it again. It's that good. It's drive-to-Denver-through-heavy-rain good. It's we-bought-a-membership-to-the-museum good. It's look over at your kids towards the end of the movie and they all have tears in their eyes good. It's regain faith in human accomplishment good. It's damn near religious experience good.
So, to wrap up, Hubble IMAX is goooooood.
And no willies were harmed (or freeze dried) in the making of this film.
For that my children are eternally grateful.
