The Rundown

Despicable me was great and I was so glad I held my ground and didn't pay the $$ for 3-D. There's a rollercoaster scene that I'm quite certain would have led to a massive wave of barfing kids, parents, and grandparents had it been 3-D.

I got some kind of bug - could have been West Nile given all the mosquito bites the rain seems to have brought to our neck of the woods (plains?) or maybe it was just a cold or something but I was achy and exhausted on Saturday. Luckily, I've lowered my (and everyone else in my family's) standards enough that the messy house didn't signal a need for action - yay me! So, C and I watched The Breakfast Club, we all watched a Disney movie called Wild Horses Can't be Broken or something like that Saturday evening, and after all that exhausting laying around and being taken care of, I slept like a baby Saturday night.

On Sunday, the local University's summer music camp got rolling and after standing in an intimidatingly long line with prodigies (?) and their parents from near and far(ish), C had her audition for the extremely well-regarded head of the percussion program. She felt great about it, and after a few more informational meetings (with ever so chipper and therefore annoying to C camp counselours introducing themselves, their instruments, and their favorite breakfast foods), sign-ups for private lessons, and getting thoroughly dissed by her incredibly-shy-and-therefore-unintentionally-rude-because-they're-12-and-hormones-are-cruel male friends, we went home to get some sleep before the music camp marathon started up again this morning.

She got her audition results and girlfriend kicked bootay. Her reaction when she went to her first class this morning was "Ooh... lots of big kids! I must have done well!" She was more excited, however, that she got into world music class because C's percussion mentor/private lesson teacher just got back from Ghana where she had a custom Djembe made for C and now the little drummer girl is OBSESSED with African rhythms. It's a booty-shakin' good time around here (unless you're my 9-year-old boy who finds any form of booty shaking, boogying, or general shimmyness to be THE most embarrassing thing in the world).

So, this week is going to cement my role as chauffeur-to-C and probably lead to yet another instrument (or ten) C wants added to her repertoire. Can't complain. Could be worse. Much, much worse.
