We're officially on Thanksgiving Break. To avoid the inevitable "we're on break so let's start decompressing by having a knock-down-drag-out full blown sibling rivalry grudge match" adventures, I took the kids to see Planet 51 right after school at the theater down the street (Tuesdays are "Stimulus Tuesdays" = $5 movie tickets and $1 popcorn and soda - woo hoo!). Luckily, I read the reviews ahead of time so my expectations were low. It wasn't great. The story was tired. It's hardly worth a spot on the Netflix queue.
BUT...
We had a great time. Ryan laughed that little boy laugh that appears only when enticed by cartoon farts and dick jokes (that's a strange place for his antenna... or something like that).
The animation was, of course, amazing but I think we've all grown accustomed to amazing animation. The animated short before the movie was pretty great and I guess it was some kind of worldwide online community effort to put it together.
In the times of Wall-E and Up, the bar has been set mighty high for animated features.
