Normally I would devote this space to an adorable quote from one of my own children but today I'll make an exception. I help with math groups in A's first grade class on fridays. In that class there is quite the collection of "livewires" - not the least of whom is a spitfire of a boy I'll call Spit. One day, when he was having a particularly hard time sitting still to enjoy our exciting activity involving the counting of plastic coins (I know, shocking), he started throwing coins, pinching other students, and generally causing a commotion. I said in my best mock-teacher voice, "Spit, if you can't settle yourself down, you're going to get moved from yellow to red." (This is teacher-speak for 'I'm gonna tell your mama') At which point Spit said (with a contagious verve):
"I'm already on red, I got nothin' to lose!"
This little gem is now part of our family lingo - you know, that little dictionary of sayings that means something in your family but maybe not to the rest of the world. It would be fun to actually write them down sometime...
