Last night (or was it the night before? February days have a way of running in to each other) I turned on the TV for a little pre-sleep mindlessness after a stressful evening of kid crises and muddy-pawed dog antics (did I mention she's figured out how to get into the "cat room" and has developed a taste for cat poop? Awesome) and I saw this:
This is one of the "stars" of MTV's Teen Mom show. She's orange. Her hair's weird and probably only about 1/3 of it grows from her own head. She's orange, though. Orange. Here she is with her BFF (who also appeared on my screen - and yes, I did think I needed to adjust my set):
Orange. With unnaturally white teeth. How long does that baby have before she's in the spray booth?
Yeah, I realize that there's all kinds of wrong on that show without even mentioning that everybody's orange and is rocking the Donald Trump comb-over (seriously... what's that all about?) but I don't feel like tackling the "babies having babies" issue - way too complicated (or maybe not... um, don't do it? Too easy. I don't even feel like tackling the glorification of teen parenthood. I'm too distracted by the orange.
Did I mention they're orange? A fact that makes their over-bleached teeth look blue? Are the Broncos fans? Even the barrel man only did it on game days, ladies.
I guess it's important that everyone has their "what was I thinking" photographs from their youth. I'm just glad my scrunchie-held, top-of-the-head ponytail, slouchy socked, striped-shorts-wearing clothing choices are held in a few unfortunate still photographs as opposed to hours of televised video that would, undoubtedly, still be seen in re-runs when my kids were old enough to beg for their first Oompa-Loompa spray tan.
And now I'm going to go knock on some wood.
I spent HOURS last night (or the night before) watching Toddlers and Tiaras. I can never get that back. Fortunately, my memory is soo awful I will probably forget everything I saw (and soon). Those little girls, as young as 5, get spray tans, fake lashes and thigh high socks. And extensions at 3? Really? Good God.
ReplyDeleteThose are the girls that will unfortunately grow up and appear on the show you watched. How sad is that?
I've never been able to make it through an episode of Toddler and Tiaras because I get all mad and I start to feel my blood pressure rise. And yes, I think they'll have bigger problems than their orange skin a they get older, too.
ReplyDeleteBut the orange... Oh the orange!
Orange is such a bright and lovely colour - on a FLOWER maybe?!
