Friday

Today, the kids are all out of school. They are Monday as well. Today will be spent on a few fun little outings but mostly getting the house tidied up for a visit from Mr. K's parents. Although having company always stresses me out a little bit, I love that the potential shame of having people see how our toilets look on an average day (week) forces me to bring our house up to a shine. I love where I live so much more when the outer 3 layers of grime and clutter have been removed. That said, nothing stresses out me out more than having to run around the house like a madwoman doing last minute cleaning, so let's hope we wrap things up today!

Saturday will be visit + errand day. Sunday is all about the music (last youth orchestra concert of the season -- woohoo!). On Monday, Mr. K took the day off work and we got reservations to take the tour of the Denver Mint. I remember going there as a kid (before you had to have reservations and a full pat-down homeland security-style) and enjoying it so hopefully it will be a fun family outing. There's also a cool Pirate exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science so if we've got any oomph remaining after the Mint, we may stop by there (since we have a membership and only been once... oops!).

We got a few-year reprieve on major orthodontia for A (who, despite all evidence to the contrary, has a tiny little mouth, not a big one) but it comes at the cost of having 5 teeth extracted on Tuesday. Poor thing.

Last night, A and R went to Grandma and Grandpa's house to watch "How to Train Your Dragon" on DVD and then they made me a lamb cake. It was an extremely sweet (and tasty) thing to do. One of my best (and one of the few) memories of my childhood was my cute lamb cake decorated with frosting and candy for one of my birthdays when we lived in Missoula, MT. Last night's lamb cake was brown, to match our moorit ewe, Pinkie Pie. I would have taken a picture but the lamb was quickly massacred by cake-hungry family members.

So, off to watch the sprinkler system guys tear through what remains of our grass, do some laundry, put some Soft Scrub to work, and to the bookstore with the kids. Did I mention it snowed like the bajeebers yesterday? And today... all gone!

  1. Cake - sounds lovely. I just love me some yummy cake.

And, um, weren't the kids just off? Don't the school systems know we have a life and thats why we send them to school? And then they're off for Easter too? Man, you're a superstar!

  2. Yes, for the record, we just got finished with spring break and now, apparently, we need another "break" - or maybe the teachers do...
