Beautiful Spring Morning...

"Mmmmm... smells like rain. That's my favorite smell and not just compared to poop or your breath in the morning, Mom." - my son R, age 7.

Two days of rain and mild temperatures have done wonders for the flowers. The irises are in full-bloom along with the dianthus and meadow sage. The Harison's yellow rose has a few blooms getting ready to open which means it will be in full lemony fabulousness by the end of the week.

On Saturday I went to the plant nursery. Really, I had to go - I had a buy one get one free coupon! I lured C to join me with the promise of hash browns and pickles (?) at our favorite restaurant afterwards. She agreed as long as she got her breakfast before our "marathon plant-selecting trip." Smart girl.

Much to her surprise and mine, I got two false-indigo and two Alcea rugosa and that's it. A "slip" in one's goal of limiting spending for most, an out-and-out coup for an addict like me. Then it was on to Wal-Mart to grab 5 bags of mulch (make no mistake, it isn't going to continue to rain like this) - I love their prices but I HATE Wal-Mart. When we aren't at war, I'm convinced our military's psychological warfare team designs and builds Wal-Mart parking lots. Anyway, I need 4 more bags so I guess I'd better start preparing myself.

Out back, everything's green, the sheep are still shaggy (I'm having trouble getting on the shearer's schedule with my little flock of 3), and the bare patch in the grass under the swing is still there. I'm going to be really sad when the grass grows over it, actually.

Lots more cleaning to do today, along with shopping for a new pair of shoes for C's elementary school graduation ceremony on Friday, and a little more work on a long-time-coming house project that I think might be coming to a close... I might be posting my first photos of the inside of the house if it gets done (are you at the edge of your seat?).

Last year at this time, T and I were lining up to start running the Bolder Boulder 10K. She is now in Ohio and I am now in not-nearly-good-enough-shape-to-run. What a difference a year makes. Motivation and chronic hip pain willing, I'll be there next year!

P.S.: Check out this house - I've had it in my "inspiration folder" for years but it's looking especially inviting and wonderful today!
