Freezing at the drive-in and weather

Another cool, wet day ahead with the possibility of more severe storms... all week long. I guess I won't be in too big a rush to replace my tomato, pepper, and cuke plants or to clean up the shredded leaves! It's amazing how many leaves can be knocked out of the great big cottonwood out back without making it look the slightest bit bare.

After an afternoon spent mostly inside yesterday, the kids and K and I were feeling a bit stir crazy so we decided to load up the cars and go to see Night at the Museum 2 at the drive-in down the street. I feel really lucky to have a drive-in theatre so close - I know there aren't many left - I might eat those words when my kids get a old enough to go on dates to the drive-in, however...

Anyway, I sort of forgot how late movies tend to go when they can't start until dusk, at which point it was suddenly FREEZING, so K and I abandoned our lawn chairs to crawl in with the kids. C and a girlfriend were comfy in the back of the VW so we piled in with the other two in the back of the minivan. A fell sleep (snoring like an asthmatic Saint Bernard) about 10 minutes into the movie but the rest of us powered through and watched the whole thing. It was good - not great but good. This morning K and I are regretting our midnight bedtime but it was a fun little adventure and no one lost any fingers or toes.

So, today is another adventure in summer band, swimming lessons, playdates, piano lessons, and a neighborhood meeting to try to clear up some bad blood between the "haves" and the "haves a lot" in the 'hood. I hope to help mediate the situation, employ my generally-damaged verbal "filter" and get out of there in time to get a decent night's sleep.

And you?
