I love Oregon. I've always said that if it weren't for all the rain, I would live there (of course, we're several weeks into uncharacteristically rainy weather in Colorado and I've survived - though I may be starting to mildew). The scenery is spectacular, the coast is the prettiest I've seen anywhere in the world, and we adore Portland. Sure, Portland may be a bit too groovy for its own good at times but I like groovy - especially for just a few days - and the cafes are just amazing. I could get lost for hours (weeks?) in Powell's books and linger in the Japanese Garden forever.
In addition to the scenery, food, and groovitude, Portland is also home to some of my favorite people. My closest friend from high school lives in SE Portland with her husband and darling daughter. Coincidentally, another dear friend (from college) and his family live in the SE as well. I found out this week from his brother (who stays with us one night a week so he can work at the same lab I do) that B has been laid up with a back injury - not a good thing when you have a (giant) sub-2-year-old son and an older house to maintain. We're thinking about you, B! Make that brother of yours pick up some of the slack while he's there. Some hauling of heavy stuff, entertaining of kiddos, and mowing of lawns will do him some good. Trust me, he's done a bit of all of those things while he's been couch surfing here for the last year.

I'm sure we'll be out to visit again sometime in the coming years but in the mean time, enjoy the marionberries (mmmmmmmmmm), the scenery, and each other!
