I think (hope? - I would rather not be alone in this aspect of parenting) every family has one. It is the time when an otherwise "successful" day seems to degenerate into impatient parents and grouchy kids. I think that every major "transition" of the day (get up! get in the car! eat dinner and get to work on your homework! get to bed!) has the potential to be witchy. During the school year, dinner+homework time can be rough. In the summer, we struggle with getting up and out the door. Because we concentrate our activities in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat (if we ever get any), we've been getting up as early as we do during the school year.
I know I have a witching hour, too. Somewhere between 2 and 4, I begin to dream of living alone in a 1 bedroom apartment with a plastic plant. Luckily (generally) by evening I've dragged myself out of the slump (thank you, dinner) and I love them all again.
Hopefully, post-witching, they feel the same...
