Meet Poppy

This is Poppy. She is a teensy weensy mutt. I'm sure there is some fancy name for her mix of cuteness but I've never had any problem with mutts. I know her mom is a Shih Tzu but her dad may be any number of small dogs living in a Denver neighborhood surrounded by train tracks and industrial parks. She was loved by the teenage boy who had raised her to this point but they had too many dogs and she had to go.

Poppy came to live with us yesterday. Otis the cat doesn't care. Mulder is hiding and might pee on things to let us know he isn't too pleased. He does that if I make something stinky for dinner or if I look at him funny. We decided we couldn't let one cat's bladder dictate our lives completely.

So far, so good. She slept through the night in her crate and is warming up to all of her new family members.

  1. Step #1: Tear out fences.
    Step #2: Get a dog.

Poppy is adorable. I hope her citizenship grade remains high.

  2. I love, love, love her! We've been on the fence about a dog forever and I believe that when we eventually get a dog it will be in the same situation. It will just be. Welcome Poppy! I can hardly wait to meet you!

  3. Oh boy...there goes the neighborhood! :-P

I thought it would be a while before you guys had another four-legged creature running around in your house. I bet the kids love her. I'll have to stop by soon!

  4. We've been on the fence for months. We knew we wanted a small dog due to a problem we had with an over-exuberant 40 - lb. rescue dog several years ago (who went to a no-kid household after 3 months).

K found her on craigslist on Sunday and I picked her up on Monday. Sorry we didn't tell you about her on Sunday, Angela, but she was to be a surprise so we had to keep on the down-low.

So far the major struggle is that I'm realizing that my daily routine is awfully boring (and the boredom is underscored by Poppy's yawning). Everyone's a critic! She made it through the mile walk (round trip) to school like a champ.

  5. I'm delighted to be surprised by a dog arriving in someone else's home. It's only for mine that I need advance notice.
