On June 14th I wrote a list of goals. Time for an end-of-year check-up!
- Save sufficiently to pay for each kid to attend college in-state and spend a semester abroad
Working on it. This is a loooong term goal so I feel fine about the slow and steady progress.
- Do more camping and take more road trips
Well, we managed a trip to Lake Agnes but I can't say that we've excelled on this one. I did make yurt reservations for Spring Break at a destination that may require a significant road trip so there's hope!
- Buy a digital SLR camera
I kind of 'got over' this one after realizing that I'm much more of a point-and-shoot type of photographer. I'll be saving for a camera upgrade in 2010, though.
- Work towards self-acceptance (and lose a few - 20ish - pounds and do what I can to make the most of what I have - perhaps go to the gym again sometime??)
Yeah... total fail. Dragged to the top of the list for 2010. So cliche.
- Expand, enjoy, and improve flower and veg gardens
Expand... check! Enjoy... check! Improve... 2010 will be the year!
- Be diligent about paying off the mortgage and remain otherwise debt-free
Check!
- Drive less and relax enough to enjoy walking to run short errands
Until the weather turned cold... check!
- Organize and maintain the house and outbuildings
Working on it... I don't think this one really ever gets "done" does it?
- Support the kids' interests (K's, too... but he guards that time pretty jealously as it is - smart guy!)
big check!
- Paint the kitchen cabinets, replace the counter tops and back splash (and don't spend a fortune in the process)
Thought about it a lot but no real progress.
- Prepare home-cooked meals the majority of the time
Um... does much more of the time count? I think it's been the majority...
- Wrap up work obligations
Man oh man I had hoped to have this one crossed off. I've made plenty of progress but I think this could drag on for years if I don't nip it in the bud. I still need to get my head around this one.
- Make a nice outdoor sitting area with a fire pit
Plenty of dreaming, no doing yet.
- Get a dog (this is indefinitely on hold until the cat with the vengeful bladder either gets mental help or dies a peaceful, natural death)
Cat's still with us, dog is doing great. Who knew "indefinitely" meant "3 months from now"... I guess I did ;-)
So 2010 looks to be the year of the kitchen, the garden, the kids, the road trips, the camera, the incredible shrinking Robin!
I'd better go take the kids out for a big, fattening breakfast before I have to buckle down.
I kid, I kid.
Maybe.
