Stream of consciousness... Monday, December 7th, 2009

Today. Much more snow expected starting at 11 a.m. My part of a poster for American Geophysical Union annual meeting must be completed today. Had a breakthrough late last night. There is hope for this deadline. The kids had 4 friends over and downed 3 dozen cookies yesterday. K proclaimed them to be "the best Chocolate Chip Cookies I've ever had." Good thing I have some choc chips left - the 2 kids who are home sick(ish) with the sniffles have declared that they shall never recover without the healing properties of butter, sugar, and chocolate. Mind you, I'd believe it if they had PMS. Unlikely given that one is an 8-year-old boy and the other is a 6-year-old girl. Want to make some? Use the Toll House cookie recipe from the bag but use white sugar only (I was out of brown sugar) and add 1/4 t nutmeg to the dough. Then (brace yourself for the unexpected twist...) use 1/2 the recommended chocolate chips. Bake them on parchment paper 1/4 c of dough for each cookie, 13 minutes.

Next goal: shower.

Important footnote for today: C has an audition for the big snare solo in the band concert on Thursday. She's practiced like a drummer possessed. She's had extra lessons with her college-student private lesson teacher. She's rockin' that Hungarian Dance #5 like nobody's business. She's paraparadiddling, rolling, and flamming like a champ. Fingers crossed.

Want to join the chaos, Craig? If the weather looks bad, your spot on the couch is always available (as long as you reserve a spot for the dog... and the kids... and you don't mind all the popcorn crammed between the couch cushions) and we're having black bean green chile stew tonight. Yum!

Tomorrow. High 11F. More snow. Possible snow day. Analysis of carbon storage on the Tibetan plateau under current and projected climate due on Thursday (do you hear that deadline slipping?). Sure to be out of chocolate chips. Hoping for Superfetch marathon on TV to ease the pain of my poor, neglected children. More chances to laugh at Poppy as she tries to find a way to poop in the snow without her feet touching the ground. I'm banking on her powers of levitation (and keeping the Nature's Miracle at the ready). Expect to succumb to the growing urge to toss a bale of hay over the fence to the deer bedding down in the neighbor's pasture. Might think better of it - survival of the fittest and all (plus... hay's not cheap).

  1. Holy Good Lord and all of that! Busy much? Wow. I just woke from a nap and you're making me tired. What's with all the snow? I thought you liked in FC - "land of the one spot in Colorado that doesn't get snow"?! It's gotta be great for the whole Ho, Ho, Ho's, no?

  2. I know... For this one week I am failing miserably at taking it slow. It's going to feel SOOOO good when it's passed, though!

I don't know what's up with the snow. I don't know what was up with all the rain the summer. I might have to buy an umbrella... and a heavy coat!

Nap, eh? Nice. Did E snuggle up with you? Just looking at his sweet little round face might induce me to nap about now.
