RIP Dyson

Remember how I love my Dyson?

Scratch that. I'm a fickle soul. After 2 repairs in the last 6 weeks, the (formerly) blessed thing croaked on me yesterday, mid-vacuuming.

It was 5 years old. I should be satisfied with its long life, I suppose but I guess I expect more from a $500 vacuum (and $100 worth of repairs before its final suck).

So, I'm in the market for a new vacuum cleaner. I'm trying to get excited but for some reason I'm struggling to do so.

I'm thinking about a central vac mostly because I love those little toe-kick dustpans to sweep all kinds of kitchen floor crud away forever. They're mighty expensive and there is a long hose to deal with but the idea of the noise and dust being relegated to the garage is pretty darn appealing. They also have long warranties so perhaps that will make it all worth it. Of course, I'd still have to figure out how to install the thing (well, K would, actually).

Riveting post, I know... my life's just sexy like that ;-)

Update: With some duct tape, baling wire, and garage magic, K was able to piece the Dyson back together again. I am thankful to be able to put off the expediture of money a bit longer - especially for something as decidedly unexciting as a vacuum cleaner!
