So, yesterday was my last day in the office. I still have plenty to do but I cleared out my stuff and turned in my keys. It was anticlimactic. I guess that's good, all in all. I didn't want to make a fuss because my departure was a life decision, not a protest.
It just wasn't satisfying anymore.
I know there are many, many people working unsatisfying jobs to make ends meet. I guess I sound like a bit of a diva. That's not my intent - it just became clear that staying in an unsatisfying job did have an adverse impact on my patience as a mom and that's the last thing I want to sacrifice.
I sure am trying hard to justify myself. I must still be feeling a bit uneasy about the decision. I have that "I'll never work again in this town" feeling.
Of course, the reaction I got from two scientists yesterday was (verbatim): "You came back once, you'll be back again."
Yes, I did "come back" once (after 8 years of other jobs and 2 more babies) but the "you need us" attitude of yesterday really rubbed me the wrong way. I felt patronized and like a little bit of an inside joke. That never goes over well with me.
Anyway, such things are to be expected. I still have work to do and that's what I need to focus on. To quote will.i.am (cuz that's how I roll) "It's a new day"
Hey, it worked for Barack Obama.
And you know how we run in the same circles.
Not to scare you but - Welcome To The Club! We're glad to have you! I only wish you had done this a year ago so we could have gone for coffee more than just every morning and wednesdays - just think of the daytime coffee drinking we were missing!
ReplyDeleteNow, on with the projects left undone - I've got tons of them just in case you run out! It's amazing how little time you end up having when you're not working...
Yeah... I don't expect to have any time to catch up until the kids go back to school, and even then, keeping up with the day-to-day (which has been largely avoided for the past year) will take up most of my time.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the welcome to the club... I wish I would have done it sooner, too ;-)
