While resting a yet again injured back (darn yard work), I've been reading The Curse of the Good Girl, it is, my friends, a parenting book. I generally shy away from parenting books because, let's face it... they suck. This one, however, is more of a psychological study of how and why girls seem to lose their zing when they hit middle school. C is still plenty zingy but I thought it would be a worthwhile read. Although I have gleaned some ideas for how to help C navigate these years, it has also been an opportunity for some self-reflection and I'm very happy to announce that whatever ways in which I lack a healthy self-concept can be blamed on the bitchy girls in middle school.
I kid, I kid. Sadly, it's still all my fault. Bummer.
Blustery day today in northern Colorado. If that dumbass (favorite word!) Heene family had floated the balloon today it might have gone all the way to New Mexico. Bonus: a lot of the leaves from our enormous cottonwood are blowing into our neighbors' pastures!
A's going to be a witch for Halloween. C's being a goth version of herself (she wasn't going to dress up at all but she got invited to go trick-or-treating with some of her new friends so it was off to Target to get some faboo spider web tights). R doesn't want to dress up. We'll see if he changes his mind (at 9:00 on Thursday night - school parties on Friday).
We're planning a low-key day today. We have some cleaning to do and then K's taking A and R to see Astro Boy and I'm taking C and a friend to see something... I'm hoping for Whip It (because I love Drew Barrymore).
I would LOVE to go see Whip It with you - looks great doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteS. Is having the same sort of costume thing this year. We've decided he's going as Phineas. Because of me. He doesn't want anyone to know. E. is a vampire - or so he thinks...
When did they get so big that they were too cool for Halloween?
Whip It looks SO great! The girls have opted to go to the Lyric and see a movie about guitar masters (featuring The Edge... remember U2 in 3D? Oy!). When did they get so cool?
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the boys' whole "too cool" thing is. I mean, seriously... they're no strangers to gettin' their geek on!
So be it.
I have heard fantastic opinions of that guitar masters movie. Even the edge is said to come across as thoughtful and multi-dimensional, metaphorically speaking -- not in the 3D sense.
