Fake Worms. Parenting from bed. Happy Halloween.

The "Insta Worms" from Steve Spangler Science were a huge hit at R's school party. I'm always a little nervous about the activities I plan, thinking the kids won't be entertained by slimy, multicolored wormlike things when they have so much entertainment at their finger tips. How wrong I was... girls, boys, parents, teachers were all amused and amazed. I had fun mixing new colors watching the kids load up baggies full of multicolored ugh. I'm not sure their parents will find the whole thing quite as fun!

My back has been on fire for the last (way too) many days. It's time I go see a specialist but while I'm waiting to get on their busy schedule, I have been spending more time than usual in bed (the only place I can really get comfortable). At first, I felt super guilty for not being more engaged in the kids' activities but it turns out they're enjoying more snuggle time and we're finding more opportunities for real conversations and interactions. I'm not saying I want things to stay this way but it has been a nice reminder how important that focused attention is to all of us.

Happy Halloween to you all! May your face paint not give you zits. May your plastic pumpkins overflow with (good) candy. May your parkas stay in the closet!

May you boogie.
