Boogers. C's familiar with those. She is home from school again today sneezing on everything in sight. She's feeling guilty for not going to school. I assured her that everyone at her middle school greatly appreciates her sharing her sneezes with blood relatives only.Last night I made a batch of Smitten Kitchen's Snickerdoodles. They were a universal hit. I'm generally not a big fan of sugar cookie type cookies but these were really delicious. It is a rare thing that will please every man, woman, and child in this house. I will be making them again.
Completed Projects. Such a rare phenomenon. I've been trying lately not to start what I can't finish in a single day. I obviously won't be able to do every step of our backyard makeover that way but for now, we've done pretty well. After all of my pruning exploits of yesterday I did something I may never have done before... I cleaned up after myself. The branches are (haphazardly) stacked in the "to be chipped" area for the tree guys who are coming next week. The area around the trees and shrubs is raked, and the tools are put away. Last night, K and our friend and former couch-surfer, Craig, put up our Behlen kennel panels in the west side yard if Poppy were ever to want to be outside without people (yeah, right...).
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we decided to get out of the chicken business. After a few years and a few losses to marauding predators, we realized that we need to have the chickens out and about on our property to free-range to really appreciate having them but they aren't reliably safe (even during daylight). Having cooped-up chickens purely for egg production just doesn't tickle our fancy so a lovely family with 8 kids (5 are a sibling group recently adopted -- GOOD people, I tell you) took the coop, chickens, and all. I hope they will have many happy omelet returns.
It feels good to make some decisions and get things done. I give credit to a new and improved thyroid medication for much of my renewed energy. Endocrine issues are no joke, y'all!
Happy weekend (a long one here due to yet another "Teacher Work Day" on Monday)!
The chickens are gone??? Wow. That's a big one. Though I have to think it's going to give you a little free time in the meantime no? Now off to the market to purchase fresh free range!
ReplyDeleteWe really don't miss them, it turns out. For what it costs to keep them, we can buy free-range, organic, blessed-by-the-Dalai-Lama eggs at Whole Foods. Now that's saying something!
